From 11 PM on May 1 to 5 AM on May 2, 2010, the Elizabethtown (PA) BIC Church was transformed into a colorful, tropical paradise at a post prom party for Elizabethtown Area High School students. This event was not an official school or church function, but came together through the joint efforts of parents, local businesses, churches, and over 75 volunteers.
The 166 students who attended the party had a large variety of entertainment activities to choose from: watching a motorcycle stunt team, a hip-hop dance performance, or the movie Avatar; playing ping-pong, basketball, or sumo wrestling in the gym; playing Wii or board games;visiting the cafe' for karaoke and a live band; even massages for the girls. EBIC's Youth Pastor, Nick Ressler, emceed the game Let's Make a Deal, which featured a variety of prizes, including a lap top, ipod touch, ipad, 42" plasma TV, and a $250 Park City Gift Certificate.
By 7 AM on May 2, the facility had been reconverted to a church in time for Sunday morning services, however, the post prom party the night before allowed the church to reach the community in a completely different way: providing a safe and fun after-prom experience for students, and peace of mind for many families.
